Every Journey Has a Story.
The transformation of Open Space
Truth be told, 2020 was a tough year for most, especially young people. Surprisingly, it's the opposite for us here at Open Space. I mean in a time of a devastating pandemic that have affected, and still affecting both individuals, and businesses etc. Open Space starts gaining the exposure it has always been striving towards. In 2019, SierraTel (one of the largest telecommunications companies in Sierra Leone), chose Open Space's uCloud as their website hosting provider to host its website, emails, and other Web applications, and because of the tremendous service we provided them in 2019, SierraTel decided to renew their one-year test drive service with us, and Open Space is still their hosting provider till date.
The Sierra Leone Correctional Service also join uCloud in 2019, and decided to renew their service with us in 2020. In mid-2020, Awoko Publications (one of the oldest, and most successful Newspaper company is Sierra Leone), gave Open Space the opportunity to develop a brand-new website with their decade of thousands of publications, which was done in a week, and it's now being hosted by our very own cloud hosting (uCloud).
Throughout 2020, Open Space CEO (Mr Bashiru Mansaray) work closely with Plan International Sierra Leone youths to develop COVID-19 guide messages, and Open Space Team were given the opportunity to use those messages and design beautiful, yet informative graphics using realistic/3D cartoons and other images in other to capture the viewer's attention, and makes it easier for people to better understand the intended messages. Plan International SL is one of the most supportive Organisations in Sierra Leone when it comes to children, girls, and youth development and empowerment.
Furthermore, in late 2020 SMEDA, a government agency responsible for coordinating SMEs in Sierra Leone, decided to host its website and emails on uCloud (migrating from another hosting). In other to support SMEDA's work towards SMEs, Open Space offered SMEDA a free website migration, and website rebrand to give it a fresh new look.
That been said, when we say 2020 was a difficult but a blessed year of breakthrough for Open Space, we mean all the Youth-led Enterprises we have been supporting, and the giant organisations, and corporations in Sierra Leone that have entrusted us to be their services provider, and patronising with us without questioning our will power to deliver. Their trust and support gave us the boost we need to even deliver immense amount of quality services beyond their expectations.
The success story of 2020 continues as Open Space founder Bashiru Mansaray won the (People’s Choice) award for "Celebrating African Youth Innovators" by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and YALDA. Bashiru was able to garner a whopping 2,101 votes. Following the award, Open Space and its related services (such as uCloud, Work Station, COVID-19 guide Cartoon video, and COVID-19 materials done for Plan International), was featured on International Trade Centre, Ye! Community, and DECENT JOBS FOR YOUTH websites. Bashiru is also the official Ambassador for Ye! Community (by ITC) Sierra Leone Local Chapter since 2019. In 2020, Bashiru also won the RESILIENCE BOOTCAMP PAN- AFRICAN INVESTOR Award, by YALDA, along with numerous other awards.
