Every Business Has a Story.

The transformation of Open Space

Truth be told, 2020 was a tough year for most, especially young people. Surprisingly, it's the opposite for us here at Open Space. I mean in a time of a devastating pandemic that have affected, and still affecting both individuals, and businesses etc. Open Space starts gaining the exposure it has always been striving towards. In 2019, SierraTel (one of the largest telecommunications companies in Sierra Leone), chose Open Space's uCloud as their website hosting provider to host its website, emails, and other Web applications, and because of the tremendous service we provided them in 2019, SierraTel decided to renew their one-year test drive service with us to a straight up three years subscription.

The Sierra Leone Correctional Service also join uCloud in 2019, and decided to renew their service with us in 2020. In mid-2020, Awoko Publications (one of the oldest, and most successful Newspaper company is Sierra Leone), gave Open Space the opportunity to develop a brand-new website with their decade of thousands of publications, and this was done in a week, and it's now being hosted by our very own cloud hosting (uCloud). Open Space Design Studio has also been designing most of Plan International Sierra Leone COVID-19 materials throughout 2020. Furthermore, in late 2020 SMEDA, a government agency responsible for coordinating SME’s in Sierra Leone, decided to host its website and emails on uCloud (migrating from another hosting). In other to support SMEDA's work towards SME's, Open Space offers SMEDA a free website migration, and website rebrand to give it a fresh new look.

So, when we say 2020 was a difficult but a blessed year of breakthrough for Open Space, we mean all the Youth-led Enterprises we have been supporting, and the giant organisations, and corporations in Sierra Leone that have entrusted us to be their services provider, and patronising with us without questioning our will power to deliver. Their trust and support gave us the boost we need to even deliver immense amount of quality services beyond their expectations.

The success story of 2020 continues as Open Space founder Bashiru Mansaray won the (People’s Choice) award for "Celebrating African Youth Innovators" by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and YALDA. Bashiru was able to garner a whopping 2,101 votes. Following the award, Open Space and its related services (such as uCloud, Work Station, COVID-19 guide Cartoon video, and COVID-19 materials done for Plan International), was featured on International Trade Centre, Ye! Community, and DECENT JOBS FOR YOUTH websites. Bashiru is also the official Ambassador for Ye! Community (by ITC) Sierra Leone Local Chapter since 2019. In 2020, Bashiru also won the RESILIENCE BOOTCAMP PAN- AFRICAN INVESTOR Award, by YALDA, along with numerous other awards.

Open Space is grateful for its success stories, and looking forward to future endeavours. As we are excited to share with you our transformation, we would like to dive in a little from where all this started.

Open Space is a break away start-up from ICANSL, a tech company founded in 2016 by Bashiru Mansaray (at the age of 20). After two years of operation (at ICANSL), young Bashiru realise the struggles Youth-led Enterprises are going through in Sierra Leone and Africa at large because of the lack of infrastructure, and support for these young entrepreneurs. He then decided to leave ICANSL in late 2018 to provide Technology and Entrepreneurship support for young people. In 2019, Bashiru started Open Space. A company that involves in tech, Entrepreneurship, and social impact activities.

Open Space is currently providing tech solutions such as Cloud hosting & reseller hosting (uCloud), website and Web applications development (Web Solutions), branding, such a graphic design, Cartoon/Animation designs (Open Space Design Studio), to Youth-led Start-ups, and large companies. Open Space is providing Entrepreneurship solutions to start-ups by giving young entrepreneurs huge discounts in its services, and also providing free tools/solutions to start-ups to help them succeed. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Open Space develop Work Station (Previously OS Hub): A free Virtual Workspace.

Work Station is designed to provide start-ups with all the tools and resources they need to remotely work from anywhere. Easily communicate and collaborate with your co-workers, network with other entrepreneurs, get access to top-notch resources etc. All in the fight towards helping start-ups to succeed in a highly competitive world that leave most start-ups with no option but to fail.

In Sierra Leone, there are many unemployed youths. Because of the lack of jobs, many youths have decided to start their own enterprises, yet there remains a lack of infrastructure to support these young businesses. Open Space is solving this problem by providing a way to easily register start-ups, provide access to technological tools, resources, and networking, and finally, in the long-term, to provide access to funding. In doing so, Open Space will provide a platform which supports young entrepreneurs, therefore solving the problem of a lack of infrastructure and support for start-ups in Sierra Leone

With a lot of features like One-click WordPress installation, free SSL certificates in a few steps, and most importantly is the quick support they provide us. uCloud's Litespeed web cache helps to load websites quicker, and its BitNinja keeps websites from viruses and malicious codes. I highly recommend uCloud if you want to have a great performance, and also save your money.
